Dempsey Blackmon
Bio
Dempsey Blackmon's passion is to push the boundaries of imagination through comic books and graphic novels. His desire is to share richly detailed stories to a sophisticated young audience using the traditionally mature adult medium. He explores the rich culture of African Americans through his characters while deftly moving between the horror, fantasy, and science fiction genres.
Dempsey's artistic influences come from the graphic novel masterpieces of Joe Hill's Locke & Key and Geoff John's Blackest Night. In his newest creation Symphony of the Ancients, he has developed an adventure story about a young Deaf African American boy who travels to a fantastic land filled with music that has magical abilities. Harnessed through instruments, he uses music to vanquish the monsters that invade his new home. Fantastical elements burst off the page while he blends the simplicity of graphic artwork with the complex innermost psychological fears of his hero.
A graduate of Full Sail University with a B.F.A. in Creative Writing for Entertainment, Dempsey is currently focused on interning for comic and graphic novel companies to jumpstart his career in the industry.
